Donruss Announces EEE Redemption Changes

Donruss has announced a change in the lineup for its 2007 Elite Extra Edition redemptions, with baseball players replacing several of the basketball players whose signatures could not be obtained.

Two baseball players whom Donruss did not receive autographs from - Beau Mills and Darwin Barney - are also being replaced with other baseball players. Donruss is still working with two subjects in the set - college basketball coaching legends Dean Smith and Norm Stewart - to get their signatures in.

"We understand the frustrations that can come with redemptions, particularly ones that are bought and sold before the release of the actual card," said Donruss Marketing Manager Scott Prusha. "But when it became clear we would not be getting the signatures we had worked for and thought we would be getting, we tried to give collectors something they would appreciate just as much. In the case of EEE, we knew that baseball players were the backbone of the product and so we added some new players as redemption replacements."

Donruss also reports that autographs for J.P. Arencibia have been fulfilled and that the signatures of James Simmons, Matt Sweeney and Rollie Massimino have been obtained and those redemptions are currently being fulfilled, as are the redemptions for Collegiate Patches cards of Matt Wieters and Bobby Hurley.

In other EEE redemption news:

  • Donruss obtained Josh Vitters' Cypress (Calif.) High School game jersey from Vitters himself and the company has produced an autographed Vitters Throwback Threads card to be used as a replacement for what would have been autographed Darwin Barney Throwback Threads cards.
  • Donruss reports they will be sending College Ties redemptions with one autograph, instead of two, stamping D.J. Strawberry, Darwin Barney and Demetris Nichols with a "No Autograph" stamp. "We tried to get those signatures to make it a dual-autograph card, but we just couldn't get them," Prusha said. "We waited a long time, but ultimately we had to move on."
  • Redemption status for card #130 is still being negotiated. "We had an agreement in principle with the player, but we're still working through some of the particulars," Prusha said. "We're working hard to get this done, but it may take time."
