While many Panini America officials were putting the finishing touches on another show-stealing appearance at the 2013 Industry Summit in Las Vegas on Wednesday, the company’s Baseball Acquisitions specialist, Tone Stakes, was busy in Arizona meeting with Panini America’s newest exclusive athlete: Washington Nationals superstar Stephen Strasburg.
On this particular day, Strasburg and Stakes were putting the finishing touches on what promise to be some of the most sough-after baseball cards on the market when they release next month: Strasburg’s on-card-signed USA Baseball gems slated to appear in April’s highly anticipated release of 2012 Prizm Baseball, an already-sold-out product that has generated intense industry-wide buzz since it was announced in late February.
