The unquestionable buzz surrounding this morning’s announcement that Panini America will be releasing 2012-13 Crusade Basketball this summer reminds us how we felt way back in our history, when our Crusade insert concept debuted more than 15 years ago in 1998 Donruss Baseball and 1998 Rookies & Stars Football. The dual-colored parallel program featuring the notable mirrored design was an instant hit that appealed equally to player and set collectors alike.
Our Crusade-branded cards have since appeared across several other Panini-owned baseball (2001 Donruss Class of 2001, 2002 Donruss), football (2004 through 2007 Rookies & Stars and 2012 Rookies & Stars) and basketball (2010-11 Elite Black Box) releases.
